Nic Rivers is a professional consultant working in the field of energy policy assessment and environmental economics. Since joining MKJA in 2001, Nic has been involved in Canada’s climate change debate, providing advice to all levels of government, industry, utilities and non-governmental organisations on issues related to technology evaluation, strategic planning, domestic carbon dioxide emissions trading, quantitative assessment of greenhouse gas policies, and project and program evaluations.

Nic is also active in research, with interests focusing on economic evaluation of climate change and energy efficiency policy, behavioural dynamics in energy economy models, and technology policy. His research has been published in several leading academic journals on energy and resource economics as well as other popular publications. Recently, he was involved in writing Hot Air: Meeting Canada's Climate Change Challenge, an accessible book on the history and future of Canada's climate policy efforts.

Nic, who is currently a doctoral candidate at the School of Resource and Environmental Management of Simon Fraser University, holds a Master of Resource Management from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship, and the Canada Graduate Scholarship (Doctorate and Master), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
